Your time, energy and insight is truly appreciated! On February 9, 2009, the Project Team with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) conducted a Visioning Workshop. Nearly 20 local groups were represented. Those groups include:

After a brief overview of the workshop, smaller workgroups were formed where attendees provided input on three specific questions:
- What activity centers and destinations should I-75 connect in 2050?
- What are today’s I-75 primary trip patterns?
- What are the highest priority transportation improvements for I-75 you recommend to address 2050’s needs?
The individuals from workgroups provided “brainstormed” answers for these questions. For question #3, each group identified top three priorities. The output from the workgroups was summarized and presented back to the overall gathering of attendees and each workgroup facilitator presented their groups priorities for question #3. The Project Team will prepare a summary of the workshop that will be posted to this site when it is complete.

The final I-75 2050 Vision goals and objectives will be available at the upcoming alternatives public workshop scheduled for the spring of 2009. A second similar meeting will be held to discuss the I-75 Corridor Vision with stakeholders in the fall of 2009.
What is this I-75 2050 Vision about?
During the PD&E study, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is preparing a "Vision" for the I-75 corridor. Interstate-75 is a vital link in the Strategic Intermodal System (SIS), a statewide network of high-priority transportation facilities. The SIS includes critical corridors (rail, highway and waterway) and hubs (seaport, airport and rail terminal). The vision will also be consistent with the 2025 Florida Transportation Plan (FTP) which identifies goals, objectives, and strategies to guide transportation decisions in Florida. The FTP addresses how Florida’s transportation system can meet the mobility needs of our growing population, make our economy more competitive, cultivate more vibrant communities, and preserve our natural environment.
While many urban areas in Florida struggle with limited mobility and are constrained by past short-sighted planning, the Tampa Bay region has a unique opportunity to “get it right” by developing and implementing a long-term vision for its transportation network. Taking the opportunity of the two concurrent PD&E studies currently underway in FDOT District 7 for I-75 and realizing that this corridor is one of the most vital links in this region and the state as a whole, the Department would like to kick start the process by developing a vision plan for I-75 within the Tampa Bay area for the year 2050 and beyond. The I-75 Corridor Vision will ensure FDOT accounts for Tampa Bay’s ultimate needs, above and beyond the shorter PD&E studies’ timeframe of 2035, and that interim actions are consistent as we implement improvements that collectively shape our vision.
FDOT will concentrate efforts and accommodate major changes in the transportation system to preserve and enhance Tampa Bay’s – as well as Florida’s – economic development, trade, tourism, viability and sustainability. To that end, the vision will be consistent with the comprehensive statewide transportation direction which recognizes the vital relationship between the transportation system (air, rail, marine, highway, and transit), the efficient movement of people, goods, and services, and economic sustainability for the State of Florida.
