The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Visit FDOT’s website, District Seven has conducted the Drew Street (SR 590) Corridor Study and Concept Evaluation from North Osceola Avenue to US 19 in Pinellas County, Florida – a total length of the corridor is approximately 4.3 miles. Drew Street provides an important connection to Downtown Clearwater to the west and to US 19 to the east and runs parallel to State Road 60 (SR 60).
This project was coordinated with Pinellas County, the City of Clearwater, Forward Pinellas Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) to develop potential solutions that establish a safer multimodal environment utilizing a context-sensitive approach. This study built upon a community-based Drew Street Concept Plan, completed in September 2018 to evaluate the recommendations from the study, identify additional alternatives, and ultimately provide an engineering analysis of impacts and design considerations of the preferred concepts. The study determined how best to meet the needs of current and future users, and establish a long-term plan to guide evolution of the corridor that appropriately correlates the balance between land use and transportation planning.
Study Purpose
This study had two purposes:
- Address near-term multimodal transportation needs through context sensitive solutions
- Develop a long-term corridor vision that defines the goals and objectives and policy requirements to establish a more walkable, bicycle-friendly, urban environment
