The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 held a Public Hearing<\/strong> on Tuesday, February 28, 2023<\/strong> from 5:30 pm \u2013 7:30 pm<\/strong> to present the alternatives being considered and allow the public to express concerns and make comments to be included in the project files.<\/p>\n

On May 16, 2025, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), pursuant to 23 U.S.C. \u00a7327 and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) dated May 26, 2022, and executed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and FDOT, was granted Location and Design Concept Acceptance (LDCA) for the US 92\/SR 600\/Gandy Blvd Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study from 4th Street to West Shore Boulevard.<\/p>\n

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) pursuant to 23 U.S. C. \u00a7327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated May 26, 2022 and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and FDOT.<\/p>\n

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)<\/a> District 7 conducted a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study<\/a> for US 92\/SR 600\/Gandy Boulevard, hereinafter referred to as Gandy Boulevard. The limits of the study were from 4th Street on the west in Pinellas County to West Shore Boulevard in Hillsborough County, a distance of approximately 7 miles. The project limits are shown on the project location map below.<\/p>\n

Gandy Boulevard is currently a four-lane divided facility throughout the study limits and is classified by the FDOT as an urban principal arterial. Gandy Boulevard is on the FDOT’s Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) \u2013 meaning it is part of Florida\u2019s high priority network of transportation facilities important to the state’s economy and mobility.<\/p>\n

The study evaluated capacity improvements (i.e., roadway widening) and the addition of bicycle and pedestrian facilities within the study limits. Bridge widening or replacement was also anticipated, and a grade separated overpass at Brighton Bay Boulevard was also evaluated.<\/p>\n

The objective of the project was to develop and evaluate \u201cBuild\u201d alternatives and provide the environmental and engineering analyses and documentation for the FDOT to reach a decision on the type, conceptual design, and location of the improvements. The \u201cNo-Build\u201d or \u201cNo Action\u201d alternative remains a viable option throughout the PD&E Study.<\/p>\n

The Department is concurrently preparing the design phase plans for Gandy Boulevard from 4th Street to west of Gandy Bridge for this project (WPI Seg. No. 256931-4). The project is preparing documents and engineering services up to 15% line and grade plans for improvements to the facility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
