The project study limits are from east of I-4 to east of County Line Road, a distance of approximately 18 miles.

US 92 (SR 600) is an important east-west roadway that spans central Florida from coast to coast. In Hillsborough County, US 92 connects to several regionally significant corridors including I-275, US 301, and I-4. US 92/SR 600 is also a hurricane evacuation route and a designated truck route.

The study team reevaluated the potential effects of widening US 92 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided roadway (except through downtown Plant City). Operational improvements such as improved signalization and intersection widening were also considered. Operational improvements increase roadway capacity by enabling roadways to perform more efficiently and often help reduce the need for additional right-of-way. A feasibility analysis of providing grade separation/interchanges at Park Road and County Line Road was also conducted.

Study Purpose and Need

The purpose of this study is to reevaluate a multi-lane roadway improvement along US 92 (SR 600) in order to accommodate future traffic growth and provide for faster emergency response and evacuation times. Capacity improvements for this portion of the facility have been identified and the project is currently included in the Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO’s) Long Range Transportation Plan.

On April 20, 2018, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), pursuant to 23 U.S. C. §327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 14, 2016 and executed by the FHWA and FDOT, approved the following: Work Program Item Segment Number:…
