The Florida Department of Transportation held a public hearing for this project on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Community Center of Ridge Manor.<\/p>\n

On October 1, 2021, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and FDOT\u2019s Office of Environmental Management (OEM) pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of understanding (MOU) dated December 14, 2016, and executed by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and FDOT, granted Location Design Concept Acceptance for the US 301\/State Road (SR) 35 Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study from south of US 98 to SR 50. It is located in both Pasco and Hernando Counties and is approximately 4.0 miles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\"Project<\/a><\/div>\n

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)<\/a> District 7 has conducted a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study<\/a> along US Highway 301 (US 301)\/State Road (SR) 35 from south of US 98 to SR 50, in Pasco and Hernando Counties. This study focuses on widening US 301 from south of US 98 to SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) from two to four lanes and is being evaluated for multimodal facilities (pedestrian, bicycle and transit accommodations), various intersection improvements, median modifications, and stormwater management facility\u00a0 (SMF) and Floodplain Compensation (FPS) sites. This study documents the need for the improvements as well as the procedures utilized to develop and evaluate various improvements, including elements such as proposed typical sections, preliminary horizontal alignments, and intersection enhancement alternatives.<\/p>\n

The PD&E study objectives include: determine proposed typical sections and develop preliminary conceptual design plans for proposed improvements, while minimizing impacts to the environment; consider agency and public comments; and ensure project compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.<\/p>\n

A Type 2 Categorical Exclusion is being prepared as part of this study. The proposed improvements will include construction of stormwater management facility (SMF) and floodplain compensation (FPC) sites, various intersection improvements, median modifications, and multimodal facilities (pedestrian, bicycle and transit accommodations). The PD&E study satisfies all applicable requirements, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), to qualify for federal-aid funding of subsequent development phases (design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction).\u00a0 The acquisition of additional right of way (ROW) is anticipated on this project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
