• Completed Study

Project Details

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reevaluated previously approved alternatives for widening US 92 (SR 600) from east of I-4 to east of County Line Road in Hillsborough County, a distance of approximately 18 miles.

This section of US 92 (SR 600) is currently a two-lane, undivided roadway with two 12-foot travel lanes and 4-foot outside paved shoulders. Sidewalks in the area are intermittent and vary between flush concrete and elevated boardwalk and turn lanes have been provided at certain locations.

The proposed improvements included widening the existing roadway from two to four lanes (except through downtown Plant City), adding paved shoulders to the inside and outside of the travel lanes, and improving sidewalk connectivity.

The purpose of this study was to

  • Identify and analyze alternative design concepts for the proposed roadway widening; and,
  • Evaluate environmental effects of each alternative.

Need for the Study

US 92 has long been a vital corridor in the area – serving both local and regional traffic. The Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has identified and documented the need to widen and improve US 92 in their 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan. As the community continues to grow and develop, the proposed improvements will accommodate the projected future traffic volumes, enhance motorist safety, and reduce emergency response times.
