• Completed Study

Project Details

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Seven, is conducting a corridor planning study along West Busch Boulevard (SR 580) from North Dale Mabry Highway to North Nebraska Avenue in Hillsborough County. The study corridor is approximately 3.3 miles in length. Within the limits of the study, District Seven is also preparing design plans to Resurface, Restore, and Rehabilitate and the pavement along SR 580 from just west of N. Armenia Avenue to just east of N. Florida Avenue, a length of approximately 1.3 miles. This design activity will be conducted simultaneous to the West Busch Boulevard Corridor Study.

The West Busch Boulevard process consists of several segments that are defined by their context, such as land use, user profile along the roadway and in the surrounding areas. The purpose of the study is to work with the community, stakeholders and a Project Advisory Group (PAG) to develop a vision and identify needs and issues. These may include issues relating to capacity, traffic operations, safety, access and egress, freight movements, transit, bicycles, and pedestrian movements. The study will document the vision for future improvements and address travel-related issues. The corridor vision will guide proposed short and long-term recommendations.

Phases of the Study

The study will break down into three phases, and each will have its own technical and public involvement focus:

PHASE 1 – Developing a Corridor Vision (Complete)

In this phase, the entire study team listened to the community’s desires and use this input to shape the corridor vision, which informed the study’s approach. Public outreach activities during this phase included a Corridor Visioning Workshop, which was held to solicit input from the public on the goals and objectives of the study, and to receive input on the full range of potential improvements to be evaluated. The Visioning Workshop providde an opportunity for all stakeholders to participate in a User Preference Survey. Concurrent with the public outreach efforts, the project team gathered technical data on how the existing corridor is used.

Concurrent with the public outreach efforts, the project team gathered technical data on how the existing corridor is used. The results of the technical analysis and a summary of public comments gathered through the user preference survey were presented at a workshop at the end of this phase.

PHASE 2 – Develop/Refine Corridor Alternatives (Complete)

The project team develoedp a variety of short- and long-term solutions that address the purpose and need within the project corridor, and engaged the community in refining design options through continued meeting of a Project Advisory Group and an Alternatives Public Workshop. The public offered ideas and commented on what options they like best. The Project Final Documents tab has the most up to date information on the solutions under development.

PHASE 3 – Corridor Alternatives and Strategies Report (Complete)

A Corridor Alternatives and Strategies Report (CASR) was developed at the conclusion of the study. The CASR outlined a series of guiding goals and objectives, and identified a range of solutions to address the purpose and need. The CASR will include short and long-term strategies that guide future development within the corridor, as well as specific improvements that can potentially be advanced in the near term though local agency participation and/or by FDOT as Resurfacing, Restoration, Rehabilitation (RRR) projects, safety enhancements or traffic operations projects.
